Getting to Chamonix and to the chalet
Chalet La Forêt can be reached by plane,
car, bus
or train. It's an hour's drive from
Geneva Airport, and you can either schedule your own transfer, or we'll be pleased to arrange it with your booking. Driving from Calais takes approximately eight hours.
Chalet Location
South facing and sunny, in a magnificent setting ringed with woods and mountains, the chalet is in a tranquil spot, set back from a small private road. From chalet, garden, balcony or hot tub, the views of the peaks - including Mont Blanc - are stunning in every direction.
The chalet
is in the pretty mountain village of Les Praz de Chamonix
- one of the most sought-after areas of Chamonix due to its sunny aspect, traditional village feel, and the Flegere ski lift which is based here. Just a kilometer further into the mountains from Chamonix
town centre, it has a charming village shop where you can get new baked bread,
local cheeses and saucisson, fresh fruit and vegetables and other necessities. There are several friendly, English speaking ski and snowboard shops, a newsagent and a post office. Plenty of restaurants and a couple of bars can be found within a few minutes walk, ranging from cheerful Italian pizzeria to superb French haute cuisine.
It's just five minutes from the cosmopolitan centre of Chamonix by car, or a pleasant 15 minute stroll along the woodland paths or a quiet road. A short walk takes you to the Flegere lift and the sunny slpes of Flegere and Brevent - Chamonix's biggest linked ski area. The cross-country ski tracks weave through the trees close by the chalet.
In summer, some of Europe's most spectacular mountain hikes can be started right from the door. The Chamonix golf course, a few minutes walk away, is a world class eighteen hole course with superb views.
From the chalet to the slopes of Chamonix
Les Praz de Chamonix has its own train station and there are plenty of free ski
buses to take you around. The ski bus stops at the road entrance, about 50m from the chalet. The Flegere lift is a five to ten minute walk from the chalet, and the central position of the chalet makes the other ski lifts easily accessible.
Chamonix town centre is an easy 20 minute walk, or five minute drive.
